In honour of Valentine’s Day, we’ve put together a short list of easy ways to make your home look more attractive... and add value at the same time!
1. Have a smart front entrance
This Valentine’s Day why not give your front door a facelift with a fresh coat of paint or stain, and maybe even treat it to some updated hardware. Good-quality numbers, letter boxes and knobs or handles can really help to enhance your door. If you have steps, keep them clean and clear, and perhaps consider painting these, too.

While you’re at it, why not add some lighting? When the night draws in and your door is lit up, it looks so much more inviting.
If, however, you feel your front door is beyond saving, you could replace it with a brand-spanking new one from The Window Company!
2. Keep your windows sparkling
I realise I’m stating the obvious here, but windows that are kept clean – including window frames – look much nicer than dirty windows! So do your kerb appeal a favour, keep your local window cleaner in business and your windows looking their best.

If you feel that only new windows are the way forward, Wayne and the team at The Window Company can help you out. They can also make recommendations if you need to match the window style to the era from which your home was built, or indeed can give you advice if your home is a listed building.
3. Keep your front garden tidy
If you’ve got a front garden and/or a driveway, keep it clear of any weeds, litter, or dead plants and your lawn trimmed! Make sure the path to your front door is free from obstacles, and any broken paving slabs are fixed or replaced.
And don’t forget the gate and fencing! The garden gate is an extension of the front door, so a nice stain or fresh coat of paint on a fully-functioning gate can make your home look so much more inviting.
4. Add some greenery
You don’t need to have green fingers; the addition of a hanging basket, potted plants or a window box don’t take much more work than regular watering. Alternatively, instead of flowering plants, you could consider succulents or even herbs.
5. Hide the bins!
If you have no choice but to keep your bins outside the front of your house, if you have the space you could build a screen or hide them behind plants.
If this isn’t possible, simply try to keep the lid down!
