Nicola came back to The Window Company after previously using us and being very happy with both the products and the service. This time, the aim was not simply to replace the remaining windows like-for-like. She wanted to change the way they looked and worked, reducing the amount of visible frame and Georgian bars so that more of each opening was given over to glass.
A particularly important part of the brief was the view out towards the garden. Larger tilt-and-turn windows gave Nicola the cleaner, more modern appearance she wanted, while also allowing her to tilt the windows for ventilation or open them fully when needed.

The Customer Challenge
Nicola felt there was far too much frame visible in the existing windows. Georgian bars, smaller openings and thicker sections broke up the glass and interrupted the view, particularly in the rooms looking towards the garden.

Her priority was to create larger glazed areas and a cleaner, more modern look. Rather than simply copying the old window layouts, she wanted the new design to make better use of the available openings and give her a much clearer view outside.
Because Nicola had already used The Window Company before and had been pleased with the experience, choosing who to return to for the remaining windows was an easy decision for her.
Our Recommendation
Our design team listened to what Nicola wanted to change, rather than simply replacing the old windows in the same configuration. Nicola knew she wanted more glass and a less interrupted view, but she was not initially aware that large tilt-and-turn windows could provide the solution she was looking for.
The tilt-and-turn design allowed the new windows to use larger glass panels while giving Nicola two useful opening options. They can be tilted for everyday ventilation or opened fully when more airflow is needed. For Nicola, that combination gave her the cleaner appearance and flexibility she wanted without compromising the view of the garden.

Installation Summary
Steve and Taylor completed the installation, including the bay windows and windows to the lounge, kitchen, dining room and bedrooms. The work took place during one of the hottest periods of the year, with temperatures reaching around 32°C.
Nicola was particularly complimentary about the way Steve and Taylor handled those conditions. She described them as brilliant, said they worked incredibly hard and highlighted how professional they remained throughout the installation.
The Finished Result
The finished windows have completely changed the balance between frame and glass. The old Georgian bars and smaller sections have been replaced by much larger glazed areas, giving the house a cleaner look and opening up the views from inside.
Nicola has also noticed more natural light coming into the house. The tilt-and-turn operation has proved especially useful for ventilation. During the recent 32°C heatwave, being able to open such large windows allowed plenty of air to move through the property.
Most importantly, the result delivered what Nicola had hoped for: a much less interrupted view of the garden and windows that feel simpler, brighter and more modern.

Customer Q&A
What made you decide to replace your windows or doors?
We wanted to get rid of the amount of uPVC visible in our old windows. They had lots of Georgian bars, smaller openings and thick sections, which meant there was far too much plastic and not enough glass. We wanted a cleaner, more modern look with larger glazed areas.
Why did you choose The Window Company?
We'd used The Window Company before and loved both the products and the service. When we decided to replace the rest of the windows, it was a really easy decision to come back again.
What was most important to you when choosing the new products?
My priority was having larger windows with bigger glass panels so I could enjoy the view of my garden. Our previous windows had bars and smaller sections that interrupted the view. The Window Company recommended large tilt-and-turn windows, and they've been perfect. I can tilt them for ventilation or open the whole window when needed, while enjoying a completely uninterrupted view outside.
What do you like most about the finished result?
The best thing is the amount of natural light coming into the house and being able to look out without anything blocking the view. During the recent 32°C heatwave, the new windows made a huge difference too. Being able to open such large windows let plenty of cool air flow through the house. Steve and Taylor, who fitted the windows, were absolutely brilliant. They worked incredibly hard in extreme weather conditions and were professional throughout. It's exactly why we came back to The Window Company for a second time. Everyone we've dealt with has always been conscientious, and you genuinely feel that they care about doing a great job.
From Wayne
One of the most rewarding parts of this project was seeing Nicola come back to us after such a positive experience the first time. There is no better compliment than a customer choosing us again because they trust us to look after the next stage of their home.
What really stood out was that Nicola did not just want new versions of the windows she already had. She wanted to change the design completely, with less frame, fewer bars and much larger areas of glass so she could enjoy the view of her garden properly.
Our design team listened to what she was trying to achieve and recommended large tilt-and-turn windows. Nicola was not aware beforehand that this type of window could give her the open, uninterrupted look she wanted, and that is where good advice can make such a difference. The ability to tilt them for ventilation or open them fully also gave her a really practical benefit, especially during the hot weather.
Steve and Taylor deserve a mention as well. They fitted the bay windows along with the lounge, kitchen, dining room and bedroom windows during one of the hottest weeks of the year. Nicola's comments about how hard they worked and how professional they were are exactly the kind of feedback we want our fitting teams to receive.
For anyone considering replacing their windows, the lesson from this project is not to assume you have to copy what is already there. Sometimes changing the window layout can make just as much difference as changing the window itself. Thinking about the view, the amount of glass, how you want the room to feel and how you want the windows to open can lead to a much better end result.
For me, this project shows the value of listening first and then recommending the right solution for the customer rather than simply replacing like-for-like. From the advice at the beginning through to the care taken during installation, that is the approach we have always believed in at The Window Company, and after nearly 40 years it is still the way we do business.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can replacement windows be designed with fewer bars and larger panes?
Yes. Nicola specifically wanted to reduce the number of Georgian bars and smaller sections in her old windows. The replacement design used larger glazed areas to create a cleaner look and a less interrupted view.
What is useful about a tilt-and-turn window?
For Nicola, the key benefit was having two opening options. The windows can be tilted for ventilation or opened fully when more airflow is wanted.
Can larger glazed areas make a room feel brighter?
Nicola noticed more natural light after the installation and said the clearer view outside was one of the biggest improvements.
Are large-opening windows useful in hot weather?
During a 32°C heatwave, Nicola found that being able to open the windows fully allowed plenty of cooler air to flow through the house.
Do replacement windows have to copy the layout of the existing windows?
No. This project is a good example of reviewing how the windows are divided and how they open, rather than automatically replacing the existing layout like-for-like.
