We have all heard the stories from our grandparents, and even parents in some cases, of the days where they would have left the house without having to lock the door, but in todays society we are much more security focused.
Nowadays people are not only conscious of the people who come to their door when they’re out of the house - they’re also worried about who comes to the door when they’re at home!
In order to find out who people in Britain worry about the most, we asked 1,000 people ‘who would you least want to knock on your door?’ Men and women of all ages, from across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, provided us with the following answers.
The Top 5 Answers
According to the results, the main thing people don’t want at their door is trouble. The majority of respondents (7.4%) said that they would least like the police knocking at their door. 6% of you don’t want to be bothered by unwanted salesmen, 3% wouldn’t want to open the door to Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2.5% want to avoid a visit from the Grim Reaper (we agree with you on that one!) and for the sake of keeping your valuables, 2.1% don’t want to open the door to bailiffs.
Politicians
We had a lot of great answers, but it appears that that the general public don’t want to find a politician at the door. Unwanted political personalities included David Cameron, Ed Miliband, Nigel Farage, Michael Gove, Tony Blair, Alex Salmond and George Osborne.
Fears
Asking who you would least like to find at your door was the catalyst in unleashing some of your darkest fears. Some scary responses included a murderer, a ghost, a clown, Jack the Ripper, and an undertaker.
Celebrities
As well as the celebrities we love to love, there are also the celebrities we love to hate. Comedian Russell Brand and singer Justin Bieber were two of the most popular unpopular celebrity responses, but one that surprised us was Elton John… if nothing else we respect him for Tiny Dancer.
Best of the rest
It would appear that some hermits participated in the survey as we had the answers ‘my next-door neighbour’, ‘anyone’ and ‘everyone’! The most existential response we had was ‘myself’.
On a sad note, we did have ‘window salesman’ as an answer. If it’s any consolation, we would only knock on your door if we had a pre-arranged appointment.
We hope you enjoyed these answers as much as we did!
