After around 26 years, Rama's existing windows were beginning to show a number of issues and she felt the time was right for a change. Having seen the finished result at her sister's home after a previous installation by The Window Company, Rama already had a clear idea of the standard she wanted for her own property.
The project was about more than simply replacing old windows. Rama wanted a clean, fresh finish, practical opening options for better ventilation and a more natural internal detail. The solid hardwood window sills became one of the standout features of the job, while a revised rear window configuration recommended by Sally helped bring more light and usable ventilation into the room.

The Customer Challenge
Rama's previous windows had been in place for around 26 years and various issues were beginning to appear. She wanted to replace them before those problems became more troublesome, while also giving the inside of the house a cleaner and fresher feel.
Quality, appearance and price all mattered. Rama had a budget to work within, but she also wanted to choose a company she trusted to carry out the work properly. Good communication was important throughout the process.
There was also an important practical consideration. Rama wanted windows that she could open properly so that she could get a breeze through the house again. Internally, she was keen to move away from the thin uPVC boards fitted beneath some of the upstairs windows and wanted a more natural, substantial finish.

Our Recommendation
The replacement windows were planned around Rama's priorities for appearance, everyday use and ventilation. Sally also looked at the way individual windows opened rather than simply copying every existing configuration.
At the rear of the property, Sally recommended a different opening arrangement from the previous window. Rama says this has made a noticeable difference, allowing more light into the room while giving her plenty of opening sections for ventilation.

For the internal finish, Rama requested solid hardwood window sills as an upgrade from the more standard finishes. The hardwood provided the natural, substantial appearance she was looking for and became one of her favourite details in the completed installation.
Installation Summary
Darren and Nigel completed the installation and received particularly positive feedback from Rama. She described them as fantastic and genuinely lovely to have working in the house. Rama also asked them about a few additional small items while they were there and said they dealt with everything with a smile and made the installation a very positive experience.
The finished photographs show a neat exterior installation, carefully finished bay windows and the hardwood internal sills fitted around the window reveals.
The Finished Result
Rama says the house now feels cleaner, fresher and brighter. Being able to open the windows properly again has also made a practical difference, allowing fresh air to move through the property.
The rear window is a particular success. The revised configuration brings plenty of light into the room and provides useful opening sections for ventilation. Inside, the solid hardwood sills give the installation a warmer, more natural finish and add a detail that Rama feels really completes the windows.

Customer Q&A
What made you decide to replace your windows or doors?
My windows had been in for around 26 years and there were various issues starting to show, so I felt it was the right time to replace them. My sister had recently had her windows replaced and I really liked the finished look of hers, which also encouraged me to get mine done.
Why did you choose The Window Company?
I chose The Window Company after being recommended by my sister, who had previously used them for her own windows. They had done such a good job for her that I was able to see the quality of the workmanship and the finished product for myself, which gave me confidence in choosing them for my home.
What was most important to you when choosing the new products?
For me, it was a combination of quality, appearance and price. I had a budget that I needed to work within, but I also wanted to use a company I could trust to do a really good job. Good communication was important too, and I felt confident throughout the process that I was going to get the quality and finished look I wanted.
What do you like most about the finished result?
One of my favourite parts of the whole job is definitely the new hardwood internal window sills. These were an additional request from me rather than the standard finish. Previously, some of my upstairs windows just had thin uPVC boards, but I wanted something much more natural and substantial. The new solid hardwood sills look fantastic and the quality of them really finishes the windows off. I absolutely love them.
I also want to mention Darren and Nigel, who installed the windows. They have been absolutely fantastic and genuinely lovely to have working in the house. I asked them about a few additional little things while they were here and they just got on with everything with a smile. Nothing seemed too much trouble and they made the whole installation a really positive experience.
What difference have you noticed since the installation?
The house feels so much cleaner, fresher and brighter inside. One of the biggest differences is simply being able to open the windows properly and get a breeze through the house again.
Sally was also brilliant at recommending different window opening configurations that I hadn't considered myself. My favourite is probably the new rear window. Sally suggested changing the configuration from what I had previously and it has made such a difference. It lets so much light into the room and gives me plenty of opening windows for ventilation.
I'm really happy with how everything has turned out.
From Wayne
There are a couple of things I really like about Rama's job. The windows themselves look great, but the hardwood internal sills are the detail that really stands out for me.
It's not something we're asked to do as often these days. Hardwood is considerably more expensive than an MDF or uPVC sill and sourcing really good quality timber can be more difficult, but Rama knew the more natural finish she wanted and was happy to invest a little extra in that detail. Looking at the finished job, it has absolutely paid off.
Rama was also a lovely customer to work for. We had previously replaced the windows for her sister, so it was particularly nice that a family recommendation brought us back to another home. Sally did a great job looking beyond the existing window layouts and suggesting a rear configuration that has given Rama more light and better ventilation. Darren and Nigel have then finished the installation off beautifully, and Rama's comments about having them in her home say a lot about the way they work.
For anyone planning to replace their windows, I think this job is a good reminder that the smaller choices can make a big difference. It might be the way a window opens, the amount of ventilation it gives you or an internal finishing detail such as the sill. Taking a little time to think about how you actually use each room can make the finished result much better.
That's the approach we've always tried to take at The Window Company. Nearly 40 years of experience matters, but so does listening properly to what each customer wants and then taking care over the details that make their home feel right for them.
